The DOE Energy Frontiers Research Centers (EFRC) program brings together diverse world-class teams of scientists to perform basic research with a scope and complexity beyond what is possible in single-investigator or small-group awards. These multi-investigator, multi-disciplinary centers accelerate transformative scientific advances for the most challenging topics in materials sciences, chemical sciences, geosciences, and biosciences. EFRCs integrate synthesis, characterization, theory, computation, and data science; develop innovative experimental and theoretical tools that illuminate fundamental processes in unprecedented detail; and create an enthusiastic, interdisciplinary, diverse community of energy-focused scientists.
This funding opportunity solicits applications for new EFRCs that will perform basic science to address:
- Co-design of materials and processes to revolutionize microelectronics and/or QIS fabrication, and/or
- Environmental management related to cleanup of nuclear waste.
Applicants are encouraged to refer to the RFP for additional information about the two priority research areas: https://science.osti.gov/bes/-/media/grants/pdf/foas/2024/DE-FOA-0003258.pdf.
The DOE plans to hold an informational webinar about this FOA on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 1-2 PM ET. Registration instructions and other details are posted here.
This is a limited submission opportunity and applicant institutions are limited to no more than two pre-applications or applications as the lead institution. The Office of the Vice Provost for Research will conduct an internal competition to select Harvard’s nominees. To be considered for a Harvard nomination, potential applicants must submit an internal pre-proposal by 11:59 PM on February 6, 2024, via the link above.
Questions from FAS or SEAS faculty about this opportunity may be directed to research_development@fas.harvard.edu.
