FAS Pre-Proposal Deadline: April 28, 2014
Award Amount: $100,000 per year for three years, inclusive of 5% indirect costs
Target Disciplines: Basic biomedical research (investigators in the physical sciences whose projects focus on biomedical science are also encouraged to apply)
Target Faculty: Junior faculty within the first two years of first faculty appointment

The Smith Family Award for Excellence in Biomedical Research supports promising junior faculty who are beginning to establish their own independent laboratories and research programs. The mission of the program is to launch the careers of newly independent biomedical researchers with the ultimate goal of achieving medical breakthroughs. Applications focus on all fields of biomedical science and may also be submitted by investigators in physics, chemistry and engineering. Clinical Research is not supported by this program.  This is a limited submission opportunity and FAS will hold an internal competition to select two candidates to submit full proposals to the foundation.
