Recent grants to universities have ranged from $75,000-$1M. Indirect costs may not exceed 10%. This falls short of the 15% overhead required by FAS/SEAS policy. The mission of The G. Harold and Leila Y. Mathers Foundation is to advance knowledge in the life sciences by sponsoring scientific research that will benefit mankind. The foundation provides support for basic scientific research that has potential for translational applications. Areas of interest include but are not limited to immunology, microbiome, genomics, structural biology, cellular physiology, and neuroscience.
The Foundation does not provide funding for medical imaging technology related projects, electrical engineering technology development projects, plant biology research, oceanography, space exploration, global warming related research, or Covid-19 related research.
This is a limited submission opportunity. The Mathers Foundation accepts applications on a trimester basis, and Harvard University, as a single institution, may submit up to four letters of intent to each cycle. The Office of the Vice Provost for Research will conduct the internal competition to select the Harvard nominees. To be considered for the Harvard nomination for the Spring 2023 application cycle, potential applicants must submit an internal pre-proposal via the link above.
