The DOE Office of Science (SC) has announced its interest in applications to advance basic research in support of the Energy Earthshots Initiative. The Energy Earthshots are part of an all-hands-on-deck approach to provide science and technology innovations that address the tough technological challenges required to achieve our climate and economic competitiveness goals. The Energy Earthshots will accelerate breakthroughs towards more abundant, affordable, and reliable clean energy solutions. This FOA is a collaborative effort across three SC research programs: Advanced Scientific Computing Research, Basic Energy Sciences, and Biological and Environmental Research. This FOA will support small teams to build the scientific foundations for the Energy Earthshot goals.Multi-disciplinary applications are encouraged, addressing more than one SC research program.
Applications must focus on addressing basic research challenges motivated by the Energy Earthshots listed below. Priority will be given to applications that focus on crosscutting research relevant to multiple Energy Earthshots.
- Hydrogen Shot
- Long Duration Storage Shot
- Carbon Negative Shot
- Enhanced Geothermal Shot
- Floating Offshore Wind Shot
- Industrial Heat Shot
This is a limited submission opportunity. Applicant institutions are limited to no more than three pre-applications and three applications. The Office of the Vice Provost for Research is facilitating the internal application process for eligible applicants. To be considered for the Harvard nomination, potential applicants must submit an internal pre-proposal by March 30, 2023, via the link above.
