Award Amount: ARA provides grant recipients unrestricted funds and AWS promotional credits. A proposed cash budget is generally expected to support one to two graduate students (or a post-doctoral researcher) for one year, plus some conference travel and equipment. Please see research area descriptions for area-specific award ranges. Funded projects are assigned an Amazon research contact, and recipients also receive training resources, including AWS tutorials and hands-on sessions with Amazon scientists and engineers. These awards are structured as grants with no overhead permitted. Please discuss overhead recovery options with your grants administrator.

The Amazon Research Awards (ARA) program funds academic research and related contributions to open-source projects by top researchers around the world. ARA is announcing the fall 2023 call for proposals for the following research areas:

Proposals will be reviewed for the quality of their scientific content, creativity, and their potential for impact at scale. Proposals related to theory, practice, and novel techniques are all welcome. Each Principal Investigator is permitted to submit only one proposal to the ARA Program per call for proposal period.
