Program

Harvard is a participating institution in the Research University Alliance (RUA) Program, previously known as the Research Exchange Program, an alliance that connects Ph.D. students and postdoctoral fellows with faculty hosts and research groups at nine prominent universites (Harvard, UC Berkeley, Caltech, Stanford, UCLA, University of Michigan, University of Texas at Austin, University of Washington, and Georgia Institute of Technology).

The goal of the RUA is to increase the advancement of diverse graduate students and postdoctoral fellows into the most competitive research and teaching carrers.

The alliance will match students and postdoctoral fellows with a host faculty in their areas of research, and provide funding for them to visit one of the participating institutes in order to present their work and ideas, learn new techniques, engage in collaborative discussions and innovation, and broaden their perspectives and carrer opportunities.

Visits are normally expected to last about 1 week (3-7 days), and travel and accommodation support will be up to $1,500, in the form of travel reimbursement.

Eligibility

Current Harvard graduate students and postdoctoral fellows who are in Astronomy, Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry & Chemical Biology, Earth & Planetary Sciences, Physics and all School of Engineering & Applied Science (SEAS), and belong to an underrepresented minority group are eligible for the program. The eligibility criteria are set forth in the NSF Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP). However, Harvard is using a broader set of eligibility criteria to expand the number of researchers who can benefit from this unique program. Graduate students participants should have passed their qualifying exams and postdoctoral fellows must have an active Harvard appointment at the time of the visits.
